Is it normal to still have irregular periods 7 years after menarche?!

Question: Is it normal to still have irregular periods 7 years after menarche?
I got my first period (menarche) when I was 10. I know they say that it's normal to have irregular periods about 2 or (3?) years after menarche and that it's supposed to even out, but mines has never evened out and I'm 17 now. Is their something wrong with my body? Do you think I should see a gynecologist?

I got my period in January and this month so far, so I'm hoping it's finally regulating, but I hope it doesn't skip next month. Sometimes I get my periods 2 months in a row, then it skips again.

Answers:

This may be a simple medical condition known as anemia. It is an iron definciency common in women and causes an irregular period. Talk to your doctor.
