should I ask my dr to check my pcos?!

Question: Should I ask my dr to check my pcos?
I was diagnosed with pcos when my son was a few months old, he's over 2 now and I haven't had another check despite the dr telling me I should have a check once a year, I have had another baby since then, so should I ask for another check or just wait?

Answers:

I think it depends on what symptoms you are having.

First off, it doesn't sound as if you are having any issues with pregnancy, and obviously you are ovulating (some of the time at the very least). If you don't have weight issues (ie BMI is under 25), and are having periods (albeit perhaps a little irregular), and you don't have any other symptoms that concern you, then I don't see any particular reason to get checked out.

There are some long term risks with uncontrolled PCOS, which are associated with low progesterone and being overweight (due to the elevated insulin). But if you are menstruating and ovulating, it would indicate that your progesterone levels are OK. And if you are not overweight, then that is good too.

But by all means get some tests run if it is worrying you.

ask for another check, youre already waiting an extra yr
