I'm 15, I'm on the pill and I smoke...(cont).?!

Question: I'm 15, I'm on the pill and I smoke...(cont).?
I'm on the pill I have only been on for two days, today is my third. I don't smoke a lot a day, the most I think I smoke in a day is five, never any more than that. I know the consequence of blood clots is even higher if I smoke whilst on the pill, I know smoking in general is unhealthy, but please take to mind you don't know me. Any way I was wondering if I could smoke? And how many a day may I smoke, or week. I'm considerably healthy and I really don't smoke that much. I haven't smoked since I started.

Here is what the scientific info says:

Anyone who smokes more than 15 cigarettes a day should be very careful about using birth control pills. The risks increase for women who are over 35 years of age and for those who smoke a great deal. One study showed that women increase their chances of having a first time heartache 30 times if they smoke 25 cigarettes or more each day while taking birth control pills. This is true whether they are taking high dose pills or the low dose variety.

Even women who are not at high risk, and have not reached the age of 35, should be careful about combining nicotine and birth control pills. If a woman has certain risk factors, including a family history of heart disease, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure, these can be very dangerous when combined with smoking and birth control pills. One problem is clot formation which can occur both in the woman's veins and in her lungs.

okay , 1) I'm glad you're aware smoking is bad for you , for that I give you credit .
2) I think you should talk to your doctor or call an anonymous nurse hotline or something. Try 1-877-825-5276 . They're registered nurses and it's free and you don't have to tell who you are .
3) Try doing a little research on your pill , go to google or bing or yahoo and type in the name of your pill . You can learn a lot .
4) all the other people that answered before me are right about the risks , take advice in consideration (:

Best of luck !

Ouch. Maybe you should think of quitting? I dont get the point of smoking. I know if your addicted its hard to stop, tons of my friends smoke. But i still say no to smoking cuz its the right thing. I hope you will succeed if you quit :)

It's better not to smoke in general, but it really doesn't put you at much higher risk at all. The biggest risks from smoking and birth control are for women over 35

you can smoke its just when you are older i think 35 is the age you shouldnt take the pill and smoke but for now its ok

thats really bad

The possibility of getting a blood clot if you smoke while on the pill is only high if you are over the age of 35. Since you're under 20, a. you shouldn't be smoking because it will make your teeth look disgusting, b. why would you smoke if you know it can give you blood clots?

Besides all of those things, I would say anything more than a pack a week would be smoking too much, and would increase the chance of getting a blood clot when you are older.

Hi - you will receive a multitude of 'thoughts' on this subject. It is entirely up to YOU if you want to smoke and take the Pill.

This, from the net, about your age group and the risks involved:

"When the Risk Increases
There are a number of risk factors that make it particularly dangerous to smoke while taking the pill. Smokers who have more than 15 cigarettes a day greatly increase their risks of a heart attack or other issue while taking birth control pills. These risks are also greater if you are over 35 years of age while smoking and taking the pill. One recent study showed that women increased their risk of having a heart attack 30 times when they smoked 25 cigarettes a day while using the pill. You may also put yourself at higher risk if you have a family history of heart disease, if you already have high cholesterol or if you have high blood pressure.

Pay Attention to the Signs
There are a number of warning signs that will let you know that you are in danger. If you do smoke and take the pill, and you intend to continue to do both, you should know about these warning signs. If you have bad pains in the calves, legs, abdomen or chest, you might be experiencing a reaction to this combination of cigarettes and pills. If you find yourself with frequent migraines that last for a long time, it can also be a warning sign to seek medical attention. Certainly, the easiest way to prevent these issues is to avoid combining cigarettes and birth control pills. You will do yourself many favors by quitting smoking and avoiding the risks posed by this combination."

Smoking is not healthy, obviously. BUT, neither is the stress that can be caused to the person who gives it up and then spends every hour of every subsequent day THINKING about ciggies and longing to smoke again.

If you keep to within 15 cigarettes a day max, and you pay attention to any warning signs (above), then you are entirely within your rights to choose for yourself.

Good luck.
