Do you believe one can truly ever recover from anorexia?!

Question: Do you believe one can truly ever recover from anorexia?
I'm 17 now and I've been anorexic for the past 7 years. There have been times in my life that I've eaten normally every day, but not for more than a little over a month. I really can't imagine my life without anorexia and I just don't think I could be happy without it. Do you have any personal stories? I'm currently 5'8 and 125 lbs. Is this underweight?

Hi. Yes, you CAN recover from anorexia. There are success stories all around. Here's a book with encouraging stories: http://www.amazon.com/Appetite-Life-Comp…

You are actually OK at that weight. Your BMI is 19, which is low normal. But if you do have anorexia, then that might still mean you are doing something unhealthy. At the least, you are behaving in a way that is negatively affecting your quality of life. Maybe at this time you can:
1) go to a doctor and see how your health is. Are you menstruating regularly? If you are not menstruating regularly, then you are damaging your health in bad, permanent ways... If you don't have a period, then you are losing bone density and will end up with osteoporosis at a young age.

2) Join a group like Overeaters Anonymous. I know, you're thinking you're not an overeater, you're an UNDEReater so it's ridiculous to join. But really, the group is for people with unhealthy attitudes about food. You will find that your story is very similar to the stories of others in the group, except the same triggers that cause you to not eat cause them to eat to much. But there will also be anorexics and bulimics there, too. It may help you to change your unhealthy attitudes towards eating, to make you a healthier, happier person.

Good luck!

Your weight is on the slim side of almost average, and yes one can recover from anorexia.

I had it for 3 years before parents even noticed, I never did it intending on losing weight I was just angry at the world and mostly my mom and dad for never being around and constantly putting their work over me. When they got a divorce my struggles with anorexia got even worse, I was at 119 lbs standing at 5'8 (we have the same height) Thats when my mom shipped my away to rehab, looking at me with no emotion, they could have cared less.

Now I'm 135lbs after winning with my eating disorder. And still I'm wonderfully f*cked up child of an Lawyer and a Business man. But I learned that my parents can go suck it because I'm not going to let them effect me and my health.

Get better 'cause you can do it :)

i think this is underweight but i think you would get there... i know how feel i've been suffering from this i stopped eating completely not because i wanted to lose weight but because i had health problem and yeah so i was put on all these different things to sort it out... and slowly after i was able to eat again i came through im still trying to put on weight because im a couple of stones underweight and people still take the piss out of my figure saying im too skinny they can hardly see me a lot... i know its hard but you can overcome this keep telling yourself you need to get better

Girl I think your perfect.
Look im 24 I weight 100 lbs.
If someone should be worry its me.

I have never been told im anorexic,
because my whole life I've been so skinny.
So your good.
Well thats my opinion.
Hope you fell better about yourself :)

You are going through a tough time now... You don't understand yourself, let along anyone else. Have you talked to any professionals about your concerns yet? One startling thing about your post was that you have been anorexic since you were 10....

Yes that is underweight. I think that one can only truly ever come close to recovery if they really want to and are determined. But not fully no.

YES
