There are different forms of female genital mutilation. Usually the clitoris and part of the labia minora are removed or let's be blunt, cut off.

There are many different types of female circumcision (ALL of which are genital mutilation in my mind).
-Pinpricking the genitals to draw a drop of blood for cultural purposes
-Removing the clitoral hood (***this is by far the most common type of female circumcision)
-Removing the clitoral hood and inner labia
-Removing the clitoris and clitoral hood
-Removing the clitoris, clitoral hood, AND inner labia
-Removing the clitoris, clitoral hood, inner labia, AND sewing together the outer labia (this is the most extreme form and it is very rare)

The vagina is the internal part where the penis is inserted during sex. I think you mean the vulva.

The foreskin is not extra. It's actually the male equivalent of the clitoral hood. (and yes a girl has a foreskin...it's the clitoral hood, the "female foreskin"). On a man, the foreskin has tons of important sexual and protective functions, and male circumcision destroys these functions and reduces sexual sensation and sensitivity.
Also, the clitoris has only 8,000 nerve endings. (not "millions and millions".) By comparison, a man's foreskin has 20,000 nerve endings.
Studies show that women who do not have a clitoris can still experience sexual pleasure, even orgasm.
It's also interesting to point out that the reasons some people have for circumcising their daughters are very similar to the reasons Americans have for circumcising their sons. They say it's cleaner, healthier, prevents infections. They say it looks better, that no man would want to marry an uncircumcised woman (or no woman would want to marry an uncircumcised man). They also do it for sexual control - yes, the original purpose for male circumcision was to prevent boys from masturbating.
I'm not condoning either male or female circumcision (I think they're both barbaric), just showing their similarities.

it's not really a circumision in the same sense as you would think with a male where the extra foreskin around the penis is removed. In female (who has no extra forskin) "circumcision", they cut off the clitoris which is really the male equivalent of a penis. This clitoris is a small button of flesh above the vagina with millions and millions of nerve endings and it's sole purpose in human physiology is feeling pleasure. When it's "circumcised" there is nothing but extraordinary excruciating pain. It serves as nothing but an act of violence against women in a pathetic attempt to oppress them that is practiced backword 3rd world countries, like Afghanistan and parts of Africa, who believe that woman are not allowed to feel sexual pleasure because it's "dirty." The greatest majority of countries, female rights activists, and Amnesty International condone any country or anyone doing this.

It is not necessarily done with the sole intent of removing pleasure, as it very well may be in some cultures. It is often done for "hygiene", rite of passage from girl to woman, culture, tradition, and religion. For instance in Sierra Leone, where almost all women are circumcised with a clitoridectomy, The circumciser is always a women. It is a feminine matter and it is governed by the women of the tribe. Most circumcised women exhibit the same behavior as circumcised men including the denial of loss, and the compulsion to repeat the trauma. Myths generated by western feminism grossly over exaggerate the harms, understate the 'benefits', and over simplify this very complex issue. Truth is they do it for all the same myths and misconceptions that we do. No mother says, "OK, time to mutilate my daughter" if they knew it was harmful they would not do it.

FGM victims usually don't think of them selves as mutilated or dysfunctional. The victim defines the level of damage. These women write articles where they claim the clitoris has no proven function, that it looks much better with out one, lower HIV rates, and Etc....

As i said before i do not agree, Langerhans cells provide a beneficial function. But as you can see the same BS biologic plausibility claim that exist for MGM also exists for FGM.

and no, it didn't hurt much, some people make a big deal out of nothing. The bottom line is, female circumcision reduces your risk of contracting HIV by at least 50%. Circumcision saves lives... MILLIONS of lives. It's irrational not to? support it.
