Help! Hormone injections for prevention of menopause?!

Question: Help! Hormone injections for prevention of menopause?
My mother wants to take Hormone injections (not too sure if it's injections but definitely taking hormones into her body) because she heard from her friend who believes in informal medical methods that it makes women look younger and slimmer. I was completely against it once I heard she wanted to take it but I didn't really know much about it. I only know the negative connotations related to taking hormones (steroids and whatnot).. I don't really know what it does but her friend stated stuff that it prevents menopause and allows you to continue having your period so you'll look younger? Is there any risks related to this?

Help? I really love my mother and I don't want this to cause a rift between us. I need her too since I'm kinda young.

Yes, there is a lot of debate about whether or not to take hormone replacement after menopause or not. There ARE risks, like increased risk of breast cancer. But the risks are actually pretty small. And there are some benefits. Basically, if you look at 100,000 women, a couple more of them will get breast cancer than similar women who don't take the hormones. But the ones who take the hormones may feel better, may have less dementia, and a few other benefits. Your mom might be one of those who doesn't get dementia because she took hormones. Or she might be one of those who gets breast cancer. But odds are she'll be neither one. She'll take it for a few years, and she'll think she looks younger, and she'll feel younger. And then she'll stop taking it. No big change.

Yep there are. I'm on hormones by a doctors orders. And if you read the side effects. On over dose. It includes heart attack. Heart failure and many other things. Just look up side effects for synthroid. Just a thyroid hormone and you'll see what I mean. Should never take any medication with out seeing a doctor and having tests done to see if you need it. Remember her body is already producing that hormone. So if on top of it she takes more hormone. What do you think will happen? Automatic over dose!
