No, there's nothing gross about menstruation, and there's nothing gross about sex, so there's nothing gross about sex during menstruation.

Sex during your period is actually better because between increased blood flow to your genitals, blood flow adding to lubrication, hormonal changes and greater awareness of your genitals you can be more aroused during menstruation. This means that sex can be more enjoyable during your periods as it means it's easier to reach orgasm, multiple orgasm, vaginal or g-spot orgasms, and ejaculation, plus it can also induce periods and ease menstrual cramps.

It can be messy - but so can sex!
Menstrual blood is little different to other vaginal fluids, it just makes a bit of a mess so you'd need to try to avoid that mess. You can have sex with a towel or plastic sheets under you to protect the bed, have sex standing to avoid messing-up the bed, in the bath/shower, or have sex without vaginal penetration (foreplay or anal sex) while using a tampon or menstrual cup. You can also get sanitary products that stop blood leaving your body but that still allow vaginal penetration.

Soft tampons or wet tampons - http://www.beppy.com - these are soft synthetic sponge tampons that are small so allow penetration while still absorbing flow, wet tampons also contain lubricant.

Softcups - http://www.softcups.org - similar to menstrual cups so healthier than tampons but these are diaphragm-shaped so sit high enough to allow penetration, although they can be difficult to use so I recommend diaphragm's as menstrual cups instead - easier to use, more protection against unwanted pregnancy, can stimulate the g-spot and made to be worn during sex so can't be felt.

If you do have sex while you're on your period let him know, even if using sanitary products to avoid bleeding during sex there is still a chance of leaking and some guys aren't comfortable with that.

You can't get pregnant during your period as there is no egg present and the uterus lining is shedding, however if you have a short cycle you may have fertile cervical mucus during your period which will keep sperm alive for up to 7 days so they may be alive if you ovulate early in your cycle. STD's and infections are always a risk but slightly higher during menstruation as your cervix is open so more susceptible, and blood means higher risk of blood borne viruses like HIV. Your cervix will also be lower down so more easily hit during sex, so it is best to try positions with shallow penetration or where you are on top just to make it more comfortable for you.

So .. you want to know if your first time and the first time with this guy is OK while you are on your period?

Look - I is fine to have sex on your period. Just have towels and baby-wipes handy because it will be messy. But you MUST use a condom to prevent STD's. Never ever EVER have sex without a condom.

But I worry about it being your first time. And if the guy is 16 as well - chances are you will gross him out.

Wait a week. Give him something else but not while you are bleeding.

If it is your first time I would advise that you wait for after your period is done. It isn't gross to have sex on your period but like when you are older in a more commited relationship.

Alot of my friends say its safer to have sex near period and you can even do it without ur condom. I dont know why this is but honestly i think your too young to have sex already.
