It can be painful, but really shouldn't hurt that much.

If you're using the wrong absorbency or changing too soon this may be why it's hurting you - tampons are dry and absorbent so dry-out vaginal walls causing splitting and ulceration, when inserting/removing tampons they can also cause friction which can be uncomfortable. If the tampon isn't saturated when you remove it then the friction is rubbing on vaginal walls and more damaging.

It's important if the tampon is dry or white in places after 4-6 hours you need to use lower absorbency or switch to pads - using too high an absorbency or using tampons during light flow will significantly increase your risk of TSS.

If you're tensed-up then you will be forcing the tampon out of your vagina, so also cause pain, or if your hymen is in tact or partly in tact you may be catching this on your way out - don't 'rip' it out, pull gently but firmly to remove.

You can also help by using cotton tampons - most tampons like Tampax or OB are made from rayon which is more absorbent and rough so higher risks of TSS and damage to vaginal walls, these tampons are also chemically treated so this can cause irritation, sensitivity, and allergic reactions - go for brands like Cottons instead as cotton is softer and these are hypo-allergenic. Or try menstrual cups like Mooncup which are far safer, comfortable, convenient and reliable than tampons.

it can hurt for many reason :

- putting it when you don't have your period
- too stressed so too contracted
- because it is the end of your period (so the vagina goes back to it's initial smaller size)
- you haven't put it in properly
- it is your first time (it takes bit of practice)
- you have a condition ( psychological like vulvodynia - check wikipedia- or extreme physical like vaginism)
-etc.

I would say don't worry
talk with your mum or your GP to make sure you are putting it wright!
if it becomes unbearable or the pain last a bit too long, see your GP and use the serviets thingy

(to reassure you, I use tampons for years now and it still hurts sometimes when not enough period or stress - being a woman ain't easy ;) )

It shouldn't hurt,so you may be allergic to the tampon or the components it it made with, you might also have an infection, get to your Doctor as soon as possible-Good Luck

It's not supposed to hurt. Some thing is wrong, most likely with how you are using them, but it could be a problem with you. A quick trip to the doctor should sort things out.

You are either pulling it out too early--it's not fully bloody yet. Or you are using the wrong size--don't use a 'Super Absorbant' one but a mini instead.

it shouldnt hurt ynless you just started using tampons,
