Progesterone or fertilaid ?? What would you take if you had my problem?!
Question: Progesterone or fertilaid ?? What would you take if you had my problem?
Answers:
Well its hard to say, given that PCOS comes in different forms (or sub-classes) and you don't give any information on your test results, etc or your goals (do you want to get pregnant? lose weight? reduce symptoms?)
At your age, I am guessing that you are not trying to get pregnant. So then, if you want to stay healthy in the long term, then I would suggest 2 things: (1) a low glycemic index diet, that is avoiding foods that give a rapid rise in blood sugar levels; and (2) a diet rich in the natural compound "d chiro inositol". Both of these help to reduce insulin levels, which is the root cause of PCOS in most cases.
The aim of the above is to reduce your insulin spikes, which in turn should normalise your ovarian function (and hormone levels should settle back to a normal menstrual cycle). Progesterone does have a role, because PCOS sufferers are low in progesterone. And low progesterone has implications for your health in the long term. So taking progesterone has benefits, but it does just mask the underlying problem, so if you can control your insulin (and hence your PCOS ) such that you make your own progesterone, that is better in my opinion.
Forget about Fertilaid, its just marketing crap. Take it if you want, it wont do you any harm, but flushing it down the toilet is likely to have the same effect on your periods..... So I would advise you save your money on that one.
I would consult a dr, but you may be able to take both.
realistically tho, you don't really need either unless you're trying to get pregnant.
progesterone is fine and will certainly help in ur problem
