Menstrual cups? (14)?!

Question: Menstrual cups? (14)?
I'm 14 only have had my period for 3 months and want to know what you think about menstrual cups and what brands. I use tampons but I hate having to change them so often and I can't get super tampons because I have to use slim regular and there's no such thing as slim super. I'm active in sports and don't want to worry about TSS.

So what do you think of them? Preferably people who actually use them. ??

Answers:

I've got 18 months of experience with menstrual cups like the diva cup, lunette, keeper. I've never used the softcup though.

I use a diva. I love it. I'm never going back to tampons. I change it once a day, sometimes twice when my period is heavier, and I sometimes forget to take it out for a few days towards the end of my period. I boil it for 5 minutes in the microwave at the end of every period and soak it in a vinegar/water solution to help get rid of stains and odors.

I highly recommend you try them- but don't just buy the diva, because it's the easiest to get a hold of in the USA. There are lots of different kinds of cups that have varying widths/capacities/ heights, so IMO you need to do a little research. Menstrualcups.org is the LJ community for menstrual cup users and they are a wealth of knowledge about cups.

I have a Lunette cup and found that it doesn't fit my body type. Finding the right cup can be tricky, but for someone young I guess it's trial and error. They do not hurt and are very comfortable. The few times I used mine, I used light pads just in case (because I had just bought mine and wasn't sure it would work).

I would strongly suggest you get one and try it. You can sell it later (after disinfecting of course) if you don't like it.

People suggest that first first time users try the LadyCup because it's soft... I never tried it, but it might be an option for you.

Cleaning is easy. I'm going to sell my cup and get a Diva cup. PM me if you want to chat :)

Good Luck!

I love the Instead Softcup. I didn't start using it until my twenties. But, I wish I would've started sooner! I think it's very individual and you have to see what's right for you. These are considered disposable, but I re-use one for a long time.
