I was so afraid of using a tampon for the first time, but I was so sick and tired of pads that I wanted to try them. First time is ABSOLUTELY the hardest. You want to make sure not to try to go straight upwards into you, you want to tilt it a little bit toward your lower back. To change it you grab the string and pull softly. Don't worry, after the first or second time you will do it without even thinking. Plus, there are instructions on the box.

You won't be confident when you are ready, I was a little scared myself. But I promise its totally fine and WAY more comfy than a pad.

Switched to tampons a year ago! :D

Well, anytime after you've started having your period you can use tampons. I've been using them since I was 14 (I'm 25 now). As far as HOW to use them, read the instructions in the box. It may be a little tricky to insert the first time, so apply a little lubricant (vaseline or something like that) to the tip before you insert it. As far as when to change it, it depends on how light or heavy your 'flow' is. On light days you might be able to go 4 or 6 hours between tampons, On heavy days, you may have to change it every 2 hours. It just depends on YOU...everyone is different and not everyone likes tampons, just like not everyone likes pads either. I was a swimmer, so that's why I started using tampons so early.

Whenever you get sick of pads, or need to go swimming, it's time to try a tampon. Buy the smallest size tampon with a plastics applicator as they are easier to insert. I recommend Tampax Pearl for beginners because it has a rounded tip for easy insertion.
To put it in:
1. Wash your hands. Soap and water.
2. Sit on the toilet and take a tampon.
3. Open the tampon. Look at it. You should see a biggertube with a smaller tube after it. There should be ridges in between the two. This is where you hold the tampon with your thumb and middle finger.
4. Open your legs. Some girls stand with one foot on the toilet, or squat, but I find it much easier and more comfortable to just sit and seperate your legs.
5. Make sure you know where your vagina is, use a mirror if necessary. Some people will also lubricate the tampon, but I don't find it necessary.
6. Hold the tampon, and put the tip into your vagina. Push gently, aiming towards your lower back, until your fingers touch your body. But your index finger on the plunger(thinner tube) and push the plunger in.
7. Pull out both tubes and leave the string hanging. If everything went well, you shouldn't feel anything. If you do, it's probably not far enough and you should take it out and try again.
8. Put on a pantyliner to catch any extra blood.

You should change your tampon anywhere from 2 to 6 hours, 8 being the very most. It matters how heavy your flow is. All you have to do is firmly grip the strip and gently pull it out. It will hurt the first time but it will get easier. Good luck!

Whenever you're ready. I've only started to use it the last several months now but the first time was the hardest. you just have to keep trying. relax when you insert it as that'll release the vagina muscles and let the tampon go in easier. It took me about two tries and 10 minutes each...

change it AT LEAST every 8 hours but if your flow is in it's first few days change it earlier. You'll know it's ready to come out when you pull it and it moves a little. I pulled it out too early my first time and it hurt like a btich. towards the end of your period use the smallest kind. Try using tampax pearls.

There's instructions on the box as to how to insert a tampon.
It's really not as hard as it seems, I swear! The first time though is the hardest.

You need to change it every 4 or so hours, also depending on how heavy your flow is and what kind of tampon your using.
