My microphone echoes forever until it blends into this weird alien sonar type no!

Question: My microphone echoes forever until it blends into this weird alien sonar type noise?
OK, I was trying to get my headset microphone to work but it sucks so I couldn't use it. So I want to use my webcam's microphone which works really well, but when I unplug my headphones and listen to my Microphone on my webcam, it echoes until there is this high pitch weird sonar noise (through my speakers). When I plug in my headphones and listen to my webcam's microphone there is no echo and it sounds normal.

Why is it doing this?

Answers:

It works like this:
Mic (sound) ----> Speakers
Speakers (sound)------> Mic
and it goes in an infinite loop.
The sound goes out from the speakers and the speakers sound goes in to the mic X infinite

It's called feedback. You feed sound into the mic, it goes through the computer and comes out of the speakers, it's picked up by the mice, goes through the computer, over and over, until it howls. You hear it on PA systems and on an analog phone handset if there's a problem. Use the headphones or turn the mic off in the Playback side of the sound mixer. (You only want it on in the Record side.)
