Is Birth Control (the pill) a Good Option?!

Question: Is Birth Control (the pill) a Good Option?
I'm 18 years old. College Freshmen.
I have irregular periods.
Bad cramps
Horrible break outs before my period.

I'm not sexually active however.
But I do like the side effects the pill may have, such as enlarged breasts (I'm only a 32A) :(
And the clear skin. And decreased pain for the cramps.

Anyone that is on the pill feel free to answer. I'd like to know from people with experience. And also what type of pill were you on (aka what was the name)

Answers:

The Pill is a good option. All pill formulations will regulate your period.

I'm not taking the Pill now (no sex), but I started taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen (regular, not lo) when I was fifteen. I didn't have any problems with it.

There are many different formulations. According to the chart in the link, to prevent acne, you'll want a pill with a high estrogen, and low androgen potency, and to prevent cramps, you'll want a pill with a high progestin potency. The formulations that fit both those requirments are Demulen 1/50 and Mircette.

Those formulations do carry greater risk for the side effects of breast swelling/tenderness (which you apparently want), depression and moodiness, and weight gain. Plus, since they have a higher estrogen content, your risk of a blood clot is greater than it would be on a low dose pill. That probably isn't a problem in an 18 year old, unless you smoke.

I point out the different formulations, because most doctors just have a preferred formulation that the prescribe everyone (usually low-dose pills). But not everyone has the same body. If your doctor prescribes you Alesse (low estrogen, low progestin), you'll probably end up unsatisfied, since it's less likely to help your acne, or your cramps, or make your breasts swell.

ETA: Tri-Sprintec is the generic version of Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I'm old and it wasn't generic when I was fifteen.

I was prescribed Trisprintec for my acne, and it helped a bit with that, but it increased my appetite a lot and I ended up gaining about 15 pounds! I stopped taking it because of that, and haven't switched to another. I have to say it did work pretty well on getting rid of my acne though, because once I stopped taking it, my acne has been really bad :( I don't think it made my cramps any better, but it did seem to regulate my periods.

I started taking ortho-tri-cyclin when I was 12 for my irregular periods and cramps. It worked great for me. I didn't notice increased breast size but did get good results with the cramping and regulation. Talk to your doctor about the options because there are many and if one pill doesn't work for you then there is always another one you can try!

I am on Desogin and it has been great for reducing cramps and making my periods lighter. I used to get terrible cramps, like make you pause mid sentence because you feel like you can't even breathe. Each cramp could last minutes and I would get them on and off for several days. Now I get them rarely and they only last a few seconds.

i am now on sprintec and like it alot. i know what day period will start and what day it will end. i usually never have cramping and sometimes break out but that is just do to stress on my part. i'd def recommend it

I was on Yaz which is the one they would prescribe you for these issues, it made me depressed and always emotional...ive been on ortho-cept on an off through the years, and no issues yet!

I'd still love you just the way you are. Be happy with how you are

Hi,
Pl.do not try birth control pills . If you want to have big breast Pl. try breast massage.
Breast massage as a method of natural breast enlargement and breast health has actually been used for years as a means of stimulating healthy breast growth and promoting breast tone, pliability and firmness.

Breast massage is one of the best ways to help create a more beautiful bustline by helping to shape, tone and promote growth of the breast and the area surrounding the breast.
By massaging the breasts on a regular basis, many ladies have claimed it has enhanced the shape, size and overall attractiveness of their breast.

Here are some guidelines for breast massage you may want to follow:

1.) Use Olive Oil or any other cream of your choice to help prevent friction and increase the enjoyment and relaxation of the massage for a more pleasurable and therapeutic experience. This can be an herbal mixture - there are some good ones out there that really do help to promote firmess and breast tone, while creating a larger and more rounded look.

2.) Light to moderate massaging using a gentle back and forth gentle “swishing” action is best. This can be in a counterclockwise circle around the breast to help promote maximum lymphatic drainage.

3.) To gain maximum benefit and therapeutic effects, breast massage should be practiced daily, as part of a routine - perhaps when fresh out of the shower, since the skin is still somewhat moist and the room may still be steamy, for a smoother massage which may be more easily lubricated since there will still be moisture in the air. If you prefer, even several times a day can be a great benefit. It depends on what fits into your schedule. A few minutes at a time should suffice.
