would you go to summer camp?!

Question: Would you go to summer camp?
So I'm 14 and mom finally found money and got me accepted to a sleep-away camp this summer, something I always wanted to do growing up. The one I got into is a really cool one with TONS of great activities, trips, experiences, and I was/am SO excited. But I just found out from my cousin (who went last year) that the showers are communal with no privacy. I don't know why, but this is REALLY freaking me out, and making me consider not going. I know its silly and shouldn't be a big deal. Mom has been telling me how they used to make her do that at school even. So I know it isn't rational, but, nonetheless, I'm scared to death. I hate to give up something I've always wanted to do because of something so stupid, but I just cant imagine making myself do that..... Does anyone have any advice?

I know it's not very inviting sounding is it? that happened to me except I didn't know about it till i got there. But it was ok because everyone in there was uncomfortable with it so no one stares or anything because they hate it as much as you do. If you don't stare they won't either. If your cousin is going or you have a friend that is, go to the corner and face each other and both look up. This way you'll be away from everyone and you won't be uncomfortable because no one will be able to see you. Then be either the first or last one to leave. I preferred to be first because you can run through the shower room while everyone has their eyes closed while they're rinsing and then you can throw your towel on and get dressed without everyone in there. But dint' let this stop you from going because summer camps are soooo fun and you'll make lots of friends. It's worth the daily 10 mins of discomfort. Good luck and have fun! ;)

You won't be in there with the opposite sex, if that's what you're wondering. Just with girls your own age. And it really isn't a big deal, the basic design of all women (and men) is the same ....

Do you really want to let such a little thing like that stop you from going? I am pretty sure that after the first day or two, you'll wonder what on earth it was that you were so worried about.

My teenager, when she went to 6th grade camp had the same fears. I told her the easiest thing to do is shower in her swim suit. That way, you can wash what you need, through the suit and your body is away from anyone's view. She did as I suggested, and had a great camp experience.
good luck.
