Why do you get lower back pains on your period?!?!

Question: Why do you get lower back pains on your period?!?
They hurt SO much and I can't find the advil, luckily this one isn't as bad as the other times I've had....nightmares. But WHY? WHY do we get them? Is the similar thing with your muscles contracting when you give birth? Also, why do you get so moody and bipolar when you're on your period? You also get weird cravings.....could anyone please explain, thank you. =)

Answers:

Well, it's all due to your uterus. When you have your period your uterus is contracting to expel the lining which has built up over the last 28 days for implantation of a fertilized egg. When this doesn't happen the uterus goes to work. Part of what you're feeling is the uterine contractions which, of course are muscle cramps. There are other things involved also like a change in your hormonal balance which can account for the mood swings and bad moods.

Most girls feel these cramps in their lower abdomen, but some, like you feel them in their back. Some even feel both together! Sometimes the back pain can be because of a tilted uterus which is not really serious but may be the cause of your back cramping.

That's a brief idea of what's going on in your abdomen (a lot of stuff) if you want to get into more depth I'd suggest you check menstruation out on the internet.

Sorry you feel so bad. Hope it gets better soon. Good luck! :)

In depth surveys on menstrual cramps...

pretty much during your period your body is completely out of whack. Hormones are running around topless and having too much to drink and falling down the stairs and breaking their poor little hormoney-legs. Back pain, crazy nightmares, and random cravings are the result :/

Because the craming muscels are working so hard. If you run, your leg muscels cramp, when you get your period, those muscels cramp. Simple as that.
:)

Life. Periods suck.

I don't know but I HATE them.
