You are 18, this means you are allowed to see a physician of your choosing without the consent of a parent. However, you should ask your mother to help you find an good gynecologist (a doctor that specializes in the female reproductive organs and their physiology). You could have a one or more health issues going on. The physician will have you fill out a fairly detailed medical history form, which will help determine what may be going on. Keep a record of your cycle, time it starts, duration, ends, flow - light through heavy, any clotting, etc... If you are using tampons, you may want to consider using feminine hygiene pads to see if this helps ease any of the symptoms.

Often an herbal tea consisting of chamomile, ginger and peppermint can help relieve some of the symptoms as well as as soothe your stress levels. Moist heat pack applied, alternately or simultaneously, between your pelvic region and area where your back hurts. NEVER lay on a heating pad...it can cause serious burns. To make a moist heat pack: You can get a hot water bottle and fill it up with hot water or you can use hot, damp towels placed in gallon-sized zip lock bags. Walking is especially helpful, however, I know that sometimes the pain can be horrific.

I had similar symptoms that would land me in the hospital...with such a low blood pressure the doctors would have to use Adrenalin to keep me from dying. So, it is very important to be seen as soon as possible. It is better to err on the side of caution than it is to err on the side of folly...

If you would like have your mother read this...I am 46 and had to have a radical hysterectomy when I was 28 because I did not get the medical help I needed when I was younger. So I am 18 years into menopause...when I should just be starting. Unfortunately, I already have severe osteoporosis and many other age-related and hormone-related health issues due to the lack of female hormones that causes rapid aging. There are too many health problems that can develop from problematic symptoms of menstruation etc... KD

Your mother is being rediculous and controlling. You need to see a gynecologist, some women have these extreme symptoms. Go to the doctor on your own your are an adult and your mom is just going to have to accept that. Its time to start taking charge of your life.
