My period appears to stop after wearing tampons for a couple days, but picks up !

Question: My period appears to stop after wearing tampons for a couple days, but picks up afterwards. Suggestions?
I just recently (three periods ago) started wearing tampons for the first time and I'll only wear them the first three or four days of my cycle because my flow will appear to slow down and I don't want to cause much friction up there. My period is normally seven to eight days long and I've had it for about four or five years now. After I stop using the tampons and continue with pads, my period picks right back up where it left off, causing my cycle to increase. Is this normal?

Answers:

Tampons pick up more blood because as soon as the blood is released, the tampon soaks up the blood, making it seem like your period stopped for a little while. :) Don't worry, it happens to me, too.
