Leaking urine after birth of 2nd child - TMI warning!?!

Question: Leaking urine after birth of 2nd child - TMI warning!?
I have 2 children, both born by SVD, one is 10 years old and the other 9months. Immediately following both births I had some bladder control issues (not being able to hold on for the loo for longer than a few mins, etc) which rectified within a month or two of the birth each time.

This time though, baby is now 9 months old and I am left with a slightly different problem that doesn't appear to be connected to pelvic floor muscle strength: I often leak a tiny amount of urine, just enough to make my underwear damp. This doesn't happen when I need to go to the toilet, or when I cough, sneeze, laugh, etc, but just at random times. The feeling is like a few drops of urine being pushed out even though I don't actually need to go. Its as if not all of it has come out the last time I went to the toilet, and like some has been left in the urethra without me having been able to feel it. I have tried leaning forwards when I pee, which is what they tell you to do when pregnant to ensure the bladder empties completely, but it doesn't help. Has anyone else had this, and does it get better or is there something I should be doing?

Answers:

My son is 5 yrs this June, was a big baby born at 8lb 11oz, and I suffered this up until last year!! Its horrible, embarrassing (even though nobody knows) and above all else, uncomfortable. I also thought this was no connection to my pelvic floor, (as my body had learned to hold itself a little better over time)until I began going to the gym last January. As my body toned and my pelvic floor tightened more, I noticed that the problem began to improve. The only time I have this problem now, is when I am desperate for the toilet already, and I sneeze, laugh or cough. Other than that, it has improved greatly. :-)

Try this.
1) Lie flat on your back, arms by your sides, palms pressed into the floor.
2) Slide your feet towards your bum, leaving a few inch gap so your heels do not touch your buttocks.
3) Keeping your hands pressed to the floor, thrust your pelvis upwards, and pull in (as though you are trying to hold in going to the loo).

Do as many as you can, up & down.
You should be able to feel a slight twitching in the sides of your pelvis when you "pull in" if you are doing them correctly. It tightens things up down there so fast! Good luck :-)
