I have HPV. Is this possible?!

Question: I have HPV. Is this possible?
My boyfriend just found out he has HPV and I might possibly have it too. We haven't been with anyone else well at least I know I haven't been with anyone but him my entire life. He did sleep with someone about a year ago before me. Is it possible that he could have gotten it from her and it just now pop up? Or is there any other way I could have gotten it besides sex?

Hi - yes, he could have become infected from a year ago, or even longer. HPV 'rests' in the body and becomes active at various times.

All HPV infections involve the transmission from one infected individual to another through direct skin to skin contact. This may occur through skin to skin transmission through the epidermis via direct contact of a plantar wart virus with broken skin, sexually during intercourse, or orally during sexual activity or kissing.

Most HPV infections in young females are temporary and have little long-term significance. 70% of infections are gone in 1 year and 90% in 2 years. However, when the infection persists—in 5% to 10% of infected women—there is high risk of developing precancerous lesions of the cervix, which can progress to invasive cervical cancer. This process usually takes 15–20 years, providing many opportunities for detection and treatment of the pre-cancerous lesion. Progression to invasive cancer can be almost always prevented when standard prevention strategies are applied - however the lesions still cause considerable burden necessitating preventive surgeries which do in many cases involve loss of fertility.

Good luck.

Trust me. He got it from someone else.
You guys need to be using a condom!
You may have it, you may not. You need to be tested. It's a blood test.
I will tell you now young lady, use a condom. If you DO have it, you will be stuck with it for the rest of your life. If this boy is someone you are gonna marry, then fine. If not, you will spend the rest of your life telling possible mates you have an uncurable STD.
I have herpes. I cannot find a mate because of it. No one wants us. And even though it is so common, there is a stigma that comes with having an STD that society places on us. So be responsible here.

Many people can have HPV without any symptoms. He could have had it his whole life without knowing. Most people who do have it don't know about it.

It's a sexually transmitted disease. Many times males don't even know they have it. It never goes away. My daughter has it too.

One in four people have it. It's very possible
