How do doctors diagnose a cervical erosion?!
Question: How do doctors diagnose a cervical erosion?
I got a smear in December after being misdiagnosed with thrush 4 times which came back as abnormal cells. I went back to the doctor who put in an appointment with the gyno and said it looked like a cervical erosion.
Answers:
Basically by a combination of history and examination. Classically women with erosions have a mucous discharge which may be bloodstained. This may also become episodically infected at a low grade level. The erosion itself is usually visualised on the cervix when a speculum is inserted. If in doubt the lesion is biopsied. Treatment is cervical cautery which would be arranged after the diagnosis is confirmed.
GP for more years than I care to remember
Some of the normal cells on the cervix have worn away and there is usually inflammation. The normal cells are replaced by inflamed tissue,
I had this years ago, and the gynecologist used the cauterization method to destroy the bad tissue. He used an instrument that destroyed the inflamed tissue.
it was slightly uncomfortable, but not that bad. They deaden the area with a local anesthetic.
They may use a different method on you.'
There is a laser method that can be used.
