Can someone tell me if this is normal with my copper IUD?!

Question: Can someone tell me if this is normal with my copper IUD?
I have the Copper IUD and have had it for over a year or so. Not sure..

But I've had painful menstrual cramps around the lower abdomen and pelvis, Severe blood clots-when I stand up I bleed out, also I feel the pain in my lower back, hips and upper thighs. Feels like I have to crack my back and legs/thighs.

Is this normal or should I get the 5yr one? What should I do? I don't have insurance and I heard it cost money to get it removed but when I got it, it was free. I don't know what to do.

Answers:

Heavy cramps are normal with the copper IUD as is heavier than normal bleeding during your period.

Bleeding out and the pain you describe is not normal. If you are bleeding more than a pad an hour go to the ER. If not, call your GYN and see what s/he says about it.

I had my copper IUD removed because of heavy bleeding.
