What causes low estrogen levels in YOUNG women?!

Question: What causes low estrogen levels in YOUNG women?
What causes low estrogen levels in women under 20? I've had blood tests done and everything checks out, except my sex hormones (testosterone is "high" because my estrogen and progesterone levels are lower than average). All I read about is low levels in older women.

Is this something I was born with, or something that my environment/lifestyle caused? I'm completely happy with my body and my life, I am just very curious!

Answers:

It could be growth hormone deficiency (ghd), which you are born with. Estrogen varies a lot depending on where in your cycle you are, so yours may just have been at a low point when they did the test. If you weren't eating well that could in theory lower it. You really need to ask how low it was, if your body is normal then it may not be drastically lower than average. If you are happy with your body then you probably don't need to do anything, if it becomes an issue you can talk to your doctor.

It depends on what day of the cycle the test was done on.

Are your oestrus cycles (periods) regular and do you feel any unusual mood shifts, head aches?

If you feel fine and your cycles are regular then I wouldn't worry. I'd also ask to do a FSH/LH test to see if the hormones that re regulate the cycle are high or low.

Is your testosterone level a little bit high, or very high? If it is very high I would be concerned about tumours that might be producing it.

I have a degree and worked in health care.
