Gynaecologist appointment on wednesday?!

Question: Gynaecologist appointment on wednesday?
Is he likely to do an internal exam? I was admitted into hospital last Friday because of my ovarian cysts causing pain and she did a pelvic exam and a speculum exam for the first time. it really hurt me and she kept saying sorry as she was doing it. Im not sexually active so im guessing this is why. I'm 18 years old.
I have been referred to someone else aswell on wednesday and im wondering if he does it will it hurt again? it wasnt unbearable but it was really uncomfortable and I had a bit of bleeding afterwards.

Answers:

Your situation is quite common. Internal exams are usually a little uncomfortable. I watched a program on a link for women with lots of cysts. The doctor operates and removes them instead of a full hysterectomy. The surgical removal of just the cysts is much preferable to the full hysterectomy especially if you one day desire to have children.

Probably the referral will also do an internal exam. Sorry, you probably will have to undergo the procedure again. But, for the record - being sexually active will not make the exam any less painful or uncomfortable.

The good news is that cysts are removable and your on going pain should be removed along with the cysts. So may God bless your doctors with skill in helping you out of the pain you have been experiencing

It may not be quite as uncomfortable the second time.

However, worrying and tensing your body does tend to make this procedure more uncomfortable.
The slight bleeding is nothing to worry too much about.
A lot of women have slight bleeding affter a pelvic exam.
Tell the doctor how you felt during the first procedure and ask for them to use a small speculum.
This may help some.
And tell them you are very apprehensive.
The doctors at the hospital may have been a little rough.'
A private practice gynecologist may be a little more gentle then the doctors at the hospital,
I hope everything goes better for you at the doctor's office.

Yes Becca, if you are going to a gynecologist, he or she is most probably going to do an internal exam. That is the initial means of evaluating pain and tenderness due to items such as ovarian cysts.

Probably. He'll need to form an opinion of the problem, won't he? I find speculums uncomfortable, even though I'm sexually active, so I can imagine it hurting if your hymen is still intact. Ask if he can use a lubricant to make the exam easier on you.

More than likely he will and it will probably feel just the same, take deep breaths and try to relax.
