What triggers the period blood to finally start coming out?!

Question: What triggers the period blood to finally start coming out?
I've always wondered what makes the period blood finally decide to start coming out of the a vagina.
I know the whole process of it but i never understood what makes it decide 'well hey i just want to start coming out now' can you tell me why?

Answers:

Hormones.

In Addition................Its not like a little magical door opens up and out it comes. Hormones control most of our bodily functions by causing the brain to act in different ways. The lining of the uterus stays put until the specific hormones signal it to slough off and it does. Don't know how else to explain it to you. Its pretty simple.

I can't answer your question exactly but I think I can provide some incite.

I've found that sometimes when my period is almost here and I can feel it coming. If I bring myself to orgasm a couple times my period starts pretty quickly after that. I believe that this is because the uterine contractions triggered it to come out.

Hormones. Purely hormones. Hormones control most of our life. They are responsible for PMS, they are responsible for sex drive, they are responsible for the calm times we have.....etc. If they are not balanced....women do terrible things....or become so depressed they can do nothing.
When a mother kills her child or children, you can be sure her hormones are not balanced as are is her brain chemistry...because if all this was in order, she would not think of doing such a thing.
Hormone are responsible for the way we think and feel about different things and situations.

The whole menstrual cycle. It might help you to see what is happening; here is a graph showing hormone levels throughout the cycle, with the ovulation and menses marked. You can see the different hormone spikes at the different times in the cycle. These hormone spikes are what governs menses.
