Mirena/birth control experiences?!

Question: Mirena/birth control experiences?
I want to change my birth control but I am unsure what to change to. I am on the monthly pill right now.
Mirena sounds great but I haven't had any kids yet. I've heard so many horror stories about it going through the uterus, etc.
Does anyone have any advice or experience?

Hi, this question gets asked a lot on here, there are plenty of answers to browse in the "Discover" section (top right corner) .

You must have it fitted when you are on your period and bleeding. This means your cervix is open which makes insertion less painful. If you have never had a vaginal delivery (birth) the process can be quite painful. The doctor has to measure the length of your womb with an instrument prior to fitting the device. Take pain killers and rest on the day you have it fitted. Some women find they are dizzy and feel nauseaus after the procedure.

When you have your Mirena IUS fitted you tend to get spotting on and off for a few weeks or months even. The device contains hormones which should prevent ovulation and your womb lining building up so you should find that you don't get periods at all in the future once this initial spotitng settles down but some women continue to have irregular bleeding to such an extent that they have to have the device removed.

Not having periods is one of the benefits of Mirena, I have one fitted purely for this reason to control really heavy bleeding and I rarely get any bleeding now, maybe 1 day of spotting every 2-3 months. I once went for 10 months with not a single spot of blood. This is normal and shows the Mirena is working properly.

Weight gain and loss of sex drive (low libido) are 2 of the side effects I have had but the low sex drive could be due to stress in my life right now.

Research all your options an implant (Implanon) could suit you better.

im currently on mycrogen 30 or however you sell it haha, and it stopped my cramps and heavy painful period and everything but oh my god. iv never had acne until i took it and nothing stops it its absolutely vile and loads of people i know still get pregnant on that pill so i reaaaaaaally don't advise that onee..
