Can wearing a tampon when you're not on your period hurt you?!

Question: Can wearing a tampon when you're not on your period hurt you?
I have one in right now, because I am supposed to get it on Saturday (and I am usually pretty on schedule, give or take a few days). And I kinda feel like I might get it today and seeing as I have to work from 5-9:30 I thought I should be safe and put a tampon in. I have done this before, had one in for a few hours, and when I took it out discovered I still did not have my period. I was wondering if that does any harm to me. Could I get an infection or something?

Hi Brittany:
There is always a chance that you could get TSS. When it was close to the day I was suppose to start I used a pantie liner until I started. And I always had tampons in my purse. Tampons cost too much to waste them.

Yes, don't do that. Read the instructions in the box, you could develop toxic shock syndrome. It's rare but dangerous. Never use tampons in anticipation, only sanitary towels. Be safe :)

no, but it's a waste. Tampons aren't cheap and you will probably tend to leave it in there longer since you aren't bleeding.
I'd use a panty liner instead and have the tampons in your purse for when it starts.
