Can you flush tampons down the toilet?!

Yes. Most tampons are "septic-safe". However, there are some that are not, and depending on the condition of your septic tank, it may not be a good idea. (I don't expect you to know that. Hahah). So overall, I would say that you shouldn't have a problem. I lived in a house with a septic tank for years and I always flushed my tampons. If you're really unsure, or your Mom is too worried, you CAN wrap it in toilet paper and put it in the trash can. Best wishes! :)

Most tampons are not biodegradable, they tend to be too large to pass through household drainpipes, and they collect in septic tanks. Hence, they tend to clog the systems when flushed and can create drainage/plumbing problems. So, while it may be "safe" to flush a tampon, there are other factors to consider; condition of your household drainage system, type of system involved, frequency of occurrence, etc.

do you actually have a septic tank? very few homes have them anymore, unless you live in a rural area. That's why they don't say not to flush them, cause 9 times out of 10 it's perfectly fine to. If you do actually have a septic tank, then I would suggest not flushing any tampon, even ones that are "septic-safe"

I was told by a man who cleans Septic Tanks for a living and he said NEVER flush tampons down the toilet...especially when you have a well and septic. If you had public water, that's a different story.
