Can having sex make your period come early?!

Question: Can having sex make your period come early?
We didn't have sex for long and it wasn't rough or anything, he did ejaculate and then 4 days later I had my period about 1-2 weeks early, first i was cramping on and off then i had brown blood then it turned pink then back to brown, it was on and off. Then there was light blood and the next day it turned a bit heavier than my normal period (because I am usually very heavy) and after that it lasted 2 days where it was light then partially heavy and then i started spotting brown again the next day and then on day 4 it stopped, but there was just pink blood in my knickers and that was it.
It was very different from my normal period because I usually have a lot of pain and blood, but it was much lighter and I did have cramps but it wasn't painful, just annoying. Ever since I have had back pains, and my period hasn't come yet, so I am giving it another 5 days and if it doesn't come I will take a pregnancy test.

Does any one else know what this sounds like, I thought it might have had been an STD but my doc said it's either an STD or i'm pregnant, but i took an STD check and it wasn't that and I doubt I am pregnant, so I am thinking could this be a UTI?

Answers:

You could be pregnant. However, having sex can jumpstart your period. I've actually started it during sex (talk about embarassing!) No matter if it's rough or not, the pressure that is put on your cervix and uterus can cause your period to start. Sometimes, when you are jump started this way into your period, your body doesn't quite know what to do, so you will get the light bleeding and light cramps. However, it should start to pick up and flow like a normal period. You may also experience being irritable, feeling nauseated, cramping, and mood swings because your hormones will be a little out of whack from being "forced" to start. Alot of this also depends on your age. If you aren't quite regular yet, then that's a huge factor.

Many men and women worry that having sexual intercourse during a woman's period is unhealthy. Though frowned upon in many cultures and faiths, sexual intercourse during menstruation is entirely normal and completely healthy.

Worries about this act generally stem from societal misconceptions about menstrual blood: most girls are taught from a young age that their menstrual blood is unclean and "dirty," and therefore should be hidden and contained at all times. However, menstrual blood is an entirely natural bodily fluid, and does not in anyway affect a man's penis or a woman's reproductive tract. As long as you are engaging in safe and protected sexual intercourse, it is entirely alright for you and your partner to have sex during your period.
