I'm really scared to try a tampon?!

Question: I'm really scared to try a tampon?
I'm a dancer and I really need to get over this. I know how to use it but I'm really scared to and I've tried before. Even though I've tried the junior kind, I feel like they're too big to fit. Please help.

The main thing you need to remember is to relax and get the size that matches your flow. Being a dancer I'd imagine you're smaller so your flow might not be too big. So get the box that's marked LITES or REGULAR. I'd try the lites if I were you just because that's the smallest size.

When you're putting the tampon in, try standing up and putting a leg on the toilet or the counter and putting it in that way. Bring in a magazine to look at and relax and find an interesting article to read while you're attempting to put it in while concentrating on the article but also put the tampon in. Relaxation is key. If you're tense your muscles in your vagina tense and try to push out whatever is being put in there. Read the directions in the box and it will explain how long to leave it in for. When you take it out, go into the same position as when you put in the tampon to make sure it leaves at the same angle. That way it won't hurt or rub bad when it comes out.

I always use Tampax Pearl when using a tampon. The cardboard ones are uncomfortable and the plastic is a smoother glide. Plus, you don't feel them inside you as much. (I know that uncomfortable feeling it takes some time to get used to but the Pearls don't have that feeling as much which is a nice plus :) )

If you're scared sweetie, you don't have to force yourself to do it because you're a dancer. The way pads are now there are so many different ones to chose from that might fit your needs just as much as a tampon will. Take it slow. If you make a mistake you can try again and use a different tampon. It takes some getting use to and mistakes will happen. It's okay if you don't get it on the first try. If you're in pain however, stop what you're doing and/or take the tampon out. Pain means it's in wrong.

Well, I don't know what to say other than I'm in your position too. I'm 16, not a dancer, but I've never used a tampon because I'm just so afraid to. I mean I've tried to, and I know how to use one and how to put one in, but it just feels so uncomfortable and way, way too big. I even used the small ones.

And whenever I try to force myself to try again, I freak out and start crying. Everyone else I know uses one and I feel like a wimp when they all go swimming and I sit out :( it sucks. But I just wanted to let you know that you're not alone.

16 y/o girl almost 17, had period for 4-5 years

When i first started it took me over a year to get the courage to just try one... i know you said you tried before but try it again and if you just give it a couple days.. its only a few days of discomfort rather than ALOT of embarrassment if you were to not use one and your dancing.. you know what i mean? leaks and such.. not so fun.. i got use to them after about a day you dont even notice it.. Theres really nothing to be afraid of =) good luck though.. dont pressure yourself.. take your time stress wont help anything.

There's nothing to be scared of. But you do have to be careful not to leave it in too long, it's rare but you can get an infection if it's in too long. So just wear tampons in day and pads at night.

Hey I had the same problem, just use a small one
