How long can my period last?!?!

Question: How long can my period last?!?
I've just gotten my first period (a fews years later than normal I suppose) and it's been EXTREMELY heavy flow for 8 days. The last few days it's been better but it's been on and off (1 hour of little to no flow and 24 hours of breakthrough bleeding) it's just got heavy again and shows of signs of stopping.
has this ever happened to you? how long can this possibly go on!

Answers:

I'm 15 and got my 1st period about 3 months ago. My 1st one was 8 days and 2nd was 3 days, skipped a day then another 3 days. My 3rd just started today so idk if its going to get lighter or not yet. But my 1st was also really heavy! Like I bled through regular tampons in like 4 hrs when they're supposed to last 6! But mine was heavy one day and completely stopped the next, so just stay prepared but it'll stop! I promise!

A typical period lasts about 7 days max. If it's just a little blood now, you're just spotting, and that's normal. You'll be increasingly irregular, so don't freak out and maybe schedule an appointment with your doctor to discuss your particular cycle. Welcome to womanhood =)

well its your first time so it will be like this mine lasted for almost 2 weeks but then stopped (first time) but i know a girl who started her period for the first time and lasted for a month she had to go to the doctors and went on the pill. you should be patient if its lasts more than a week then i suggest you talk to your mum maybe she could give you advice.

No need to worry, every girls body is different when it comes to period. Your period can last up to two weeks. You just started so it may change and not last as long. I'm 16 and started my period when I was about 12 and it was heavy and lasted awhile, now its only about 4 days and light. Don't worry ur fine.. if your still concerned if it stays this way just talk to your mom.

The first few periods are usually longer or shorter and take a while to be the normal 3 to 6 days with 28-32 days in between. The only way to regulate it better is birth control.
