why am I bleeding so much while I'm on birth control?!

Question: Why am I bleeding so much while I'm on birth control?
I am on depo provera and have been for about a year, I have had 5 shots I think. for the 2nd time, I am having bleeding thats more than just a few spots, several weeks before I'm due to get a new shot. the last time was so bad I had to go to the ER. I was passing clots and bleeding very heavily. They said it was just dysmenorrhea, abnormal uterine bleeding. But that didnt tell me much :-/ now this time, I am not due for another shot until the beginning of April and I am having light bleeding. It has been pretty light but also more than just spotting. what is happening? has anyone else had this happen? I think perhaps my body could be rejecting the high hormone levels in this form of birth control, is that possible? how should I go about this, go to a gynecologist? switch to a new form of birth control? any ideas on which? Help!

Answers:

it could be that the depo-provera it to strong. it is a lot of hormones at one time administered to the body. that causes water retention, bloating and moodiness. rather go for the pill. it is a small amount of hormones that you get in every day, it will also help with a heavy flow.

From what I hear, any form of birth control can cause bleeding. There's no way around this, it sucks.
