Desperate for answers about my health :( ?!

Question: Desperate for answers about my health :( ?
I am an 18 year old girl very active and in good health. I had an attack of some kind in October (4 months ago) in which I felt that I couldn't breathe and was going to pass out. I went to the doctor and found out I had mono. Ever since then I've been short of breath constantly. I've been to the doctor numerous times and they say the mono should be gone now but I have this horrible constant inability to take a deep relaxing breath. I had an EKG and everything came out fine... my pediatrician concluded i have anxiety/panic. I'm not convinced of this because I don't feel conciously anxious about anything,
plus the shortness of breath went away for about 3 weeks then came back and seems worse than ever. I can't sleep because I wake up in the middle of the night feeling completely smothered, It gets the worst when I'm just sitting in class and I don't feel good exercising anymore. Even though my EKG was fine I'm worried because that was 3 months ago, what if somethings been developing or its my heart or lungs? I don't know what else to do, all I know is I can't go on living like this. I just want to feel normal again. I'm exausted emotionally and physically and if I go back to my regular doctor I fear they will just tell me I'm fine again.
If anyone has any ideas or has been through something similar, Id really appreciate your thoughts. I truly am desperate. thanks:)

Answers:

my best friend has this EXACT problem...right down to the mono!!! she still doesn't know what it is, but if i find out i will let you know, ok?
Here is what I found out from her:
1) Certain things will set it off, for her, its her allergies and asthma
2) It can last for years (I know, not very reassuring, sorry)
3) She does have a type of medicine for it, but she wouldn't tell me what it was (I'm sorry)
4) She has had those anxiety attacks

I'm sorry that I couldn't get more information, I think she was trying not to make me worry about her, even though I told her I wanted to give the information to someone else :)

She did go to a lot of different types doctors though, who tried many different things to find out what was going on. My best advice from here would be to look up someone who specializes in lungs, or the breathing system in general.

I hope I was able to help, even if by only a little bit!

Mono has been known to trigger other problems. For instance, I got mono and now have fibromyalgia. Have you ever considered that you might have asthma? Even if you didn't have it before, the mono could have triggered some sort of breathing problem and since yours is irregular, it could be asthma. Try seeing another doctor for a second option and see what turns up.
