Teen Period Troubles, tampons?!

Question: Teen Period Troubles, tampons?
So ive had my period since October and it has been super irregular.Totally random too, and i had one for 14 days once! Now im scared because I could get it as I am going to mexico in April! Ive heard of those short tampons but im scared its gonna hurt and get stuck. But I also dont want to be stuck in Cancun without swimming! Oh and i have also heard of Toxic Shock Syndrome too, im not sexually active too.

The RN has the best answer about how to use and when to change! Tou shouldn't worry about using what you call the "short" tampons. The smaller tampons that are supposed to be concealed well in pockets and purses (I think one of them is called clicks) actually pull out into a normal size tampon once you have it out of the package. They are the same size and have the same strings as regular tampons, but are just designed differently for ease of travel!

Every single brand and box of tampons comes with instructions and they should all have picture inserts inside that will answer the questions you have. They also have information on TSS inside, but if you change every two hours, you will be good to go. Good luck!

I was terrified the first time I used a tampon, but they are now my best friend. Don't put them in when you're not on your period just to "practice". wait until you actually start. I know it may sound odd, but useing a handheld mirror might help. Follow a diagram that comes in the box if you need it. I prefer plastic inserts over cardboard, but that's just an opinion. As for TSS, change the tampon every four to eight hours or until the string has a little blood on it. If you put one in and then pull it right back out again, it will be uncomfortable. Just a few tips. I'm only 14 and I've only had mine for about a year and a half, but you'll get used to it after a while, i promise.

Hi, When you first start your period it can be very irregular. It usually gets better with time. As for your vacation , tampons are a godsend. The most important thing to remember is to get the right size. Regular or slim would be good. Change then @ every two hours to prevent TSS. And make sure you insert them properly( open the labia them place the tampon into the vagina and push from there. It shouldn't hurt if you get it in all the way. It will take a little getting used to but that won't take long. Have a great trip.

if you're comfortable with a tampon, try the lowest one for your flow, and research comfortable tampon brands. google "how to insert a tampon".

but if it hurts when you try it, and you can't get it in without a lot of pain, i'd say wait until you're older.

good luck :)

you will just have to try tampons,
i know that its probably super awkward but talk to your mom or aunt or some other female about it.
since you haven't used them before pack a few different brands with you and also different absorbencies.

they don't really hurt. I was scared my first time but i was determined since i was Tennessee and my whole trip was planned around swimming. Just got to do it quick

Tampons are wonderful! Honestly mush much better than pads in my opinion. Also you can wear them swimming.

Tampons arent painful, you just have to make sure you put it in far enough
