Does anyone know how long it takes for the risk of blood clotting to go back to !

Question: Does anyone know how long it takes for the risk of blood clotting to go back to normal after birth control?
I am going to stop birth control and I am wanting to know if there are any statistics on the time it takes for your risk of blood clots to go back to normal.

Thanks for any info!

As someone who suffered some deep-vein blood clots partially due to birth control, I'm sorry to say I've never read any such research. Part of the problem is that some of our natural hormones (the estrogen family) increases the risk of blood clots itself. And everyone's cycle returns to their own "normal" at different speeds after quitting BC. Generally, though, I would assume that your risk will steeply decline immediately.

From personal experience, I can't say for sure, either. I was on blood thinners to treat my blood clots when I quit BC, so I know my risk was much lower on those blood thinners than it would be for a different person. Besides, who talks about "risk" when it had already happened to me? ;)
