I know you probably don′t want to hear this but you really are young to be having sex. So my advice would be to wait a while and be positively sure you are ready. You will only get one ¨first¨ time and good or bad, you will remember it for the rest of your life. That being said, I realize that you will ultimately do what you want no matter how many older and wiser people tell you otherwise (I sure did, although if I had it to do over again I would have waited). So I think it′s great that you are thinking ahead and figuring out how to protect yourself from unwanted pregnancy.

To answer your question, NO, your health information is private and cannot be shared with anyone, even your parents, without your permission. However, they will know that you are on the pill unless you are able to buy it out-of-pocket (ie, if you are on their insurance plan and need to use their plan to buy the pill). And yes, if you make it clear to your gyno that you don′t want your parents to know, he/she will probably help you with a ¨cover story¨ such as heavy periods.

Please remember though, that the pill will only protect against pregnancy. No matter what method of birth control you use (pill, patch, implant, ring, etc) I recommend you also use a condom each and every time. Not only will a condom will give you extra protection in case your primary birth control fails, it is also the ONLY method of birth control that will protect your from STDs.

ETA: while I won′t thumb Liz down, I have to disagree with lying to your gyno. You need to be completely honest with him/her so that he/she can give you the very best care he/she can. I′ll repeat this again: your gyno, BY LAW cannot give out your health information without your consent. He/she could lose his/her job, if not his/her license to practice, if he/she did. Just make it clear when you talk to your gyno that you do not want your parents to know you are thinking about having sex.

I'm pretty sure this is going to get me some thumbs down, but you can just tell your doctor you have heavy and crampy periods and you'd like to get on BC so you don't have to deal with them. Also family planning clinics by law don't tell your parents if you're on birth control and they often give BC out at the clinic you go to so you don't have to get a prescription to a pharmacy.

No, if you ask your doctor to go on the pill and they let you they wont have to tell your parents. However, since your under 16 they will only give it to you if they think you will be using it correctly, safely and responsibly. Im not going to tell you not to have sex, but to be honest cant you just use a condom for the first time, and then go on the pill after that? The doctors definately wont give the pill to a virgin who's not in a relationship. Just condoms for a bit, then convert to the pill when your having sex regularly :)
