Question: If you stop using the Nuva ring what can happen?
I have been on the Nuva ring for almost a year.. It's the Only birth control i have been on. Well last month i used my last one and my Obgyn doctor moved and i have been able to contact a new one to get a refil on my birth control. Well a little after i got off i had unprotected sex with my boyfriend.. and i started experiencing mild cramps in my lower back, soreness of the nipples, and i thought i might have gotten preg but i took two tests and they have been negative. But i havent had my period yet and so i dont know whats going on. What is going on could this be from being off Nuva ring?

It is common for women who use the Nuva Ring (or any other type of hormonal birth control) to experience less painful cramps and lighter, more regular periods while using birth control. My best guess is that you are getting your period. Let me explain: while you were using the Nuva Ring, the hormones in it helped you to have less painful menstrual cramps, and now that you are no longer using it, your cramps are more intense than you are used to. This is probably why there are more noticeable.

If you are still concerned I would recommend discussing this with your physician or gyno.
