really heavy period! (maybe tmi, not really though)?!

Question: Really heavy period! (maybe tmi, not really though)?
so i got my first period today. and my mom had bought some tampons and pads for whenever i do start. so anyway i put a tampon in at 6:30ish am. and threw a couple more in my bag for school. then at 1:30ish, i changed my tampon because i leaked really badly. then again at 5:30ish i got home from school and cross country and yet again my tampon leaked. so i put a pad on since i was home and at 8 ish i changed it because it was pretty full. i used regular absorbency tampons and i don't understand how my first period is SO heavy. is this okay? should i use super tampons instead? thanks

Answers:

You can start using tampons right away, you don't have to wait a year or whatever the other answerer said. If you're comfortable using them, and change them regularly (every 4-6 hours, or when they're full if it's before then), there's no health risks.
Wear a liner with a tampon if they're leaking, it's a little bit of added security and you can get ones that you can barely notice, so they're not uncomfortable like pads.
My first period (after spotting once) was quite heavy, and they've gotten a bit lighter but not a lot, they're still pretty heavy. Periods tend to get lighter on about the 3rd day for most girls, so you may find they lighten up tomorrow or the next day.
If they're leaking before 4 hours, I think moving up to super tampons would be best for heavy days.

Not too sure but it could be an iron level issue, or your first one is just crappy.
You shouldn't be using tampons for the first year, there's an increased risk of TSS with that or whatever.
Also, if you still decide to use tampons try to change it every four hours at the most.

Morgan Freeman.

Its totally normal its gonna be irregular like some days it well be heavy and somedays it wont be hun.

i would recommend super tampons its better for school so you dont have change ur tampon more often

I would use heavy pads, not tampons. If you do want to use a tampon, put a pad on anyway with the tampon so it doesn't leak onto your clothes.
