I have fibriods, what options are open to me?!

Question: I have fibriods, what options are open to me?
I am 52 years old and have been diagnosed with fibroids for the 2nd time, the first time I had a Endometrial ablation, thats was about 10years ago, I have been told that due to my age they will not offer me that again, and that I will have to have a hysterectomy, my fibriods are causing bladder
problems, that can be quite embarasing! is there any other treatment? I really do not want hysterectomy. for info I have been 12 months without a period.

There's another procedure, uterine artery embolization, where they block the blood supply to the fibroid, and then the fibroid shrinks and goes away. In any case, if you are menopausal, the fibroids should be shrinking or at least not getting bigger. I think there are some good options for you. I think when they say they won't do ablation due to your age, I think they mean because you are menopausal. But that's not right--they should do it regardless of your age. You may be able to find another doctor to do it, or to do uterine artery embolization.

There is also laser treatment available and one other whose name I forget, which means taking away the fibroids and leaving the womb intact. The only problem is that the fibroids might come back, although that is less likely after the menopause.
If your periods have stopped, what's wrong with having a hysterectomy? It's not the awful thing it used to be. Then you will have peace of mind and no embarrassing bladder problems.

It's completely up to you, but all things considered I am curious why you don't just go forward with a hysterectomy.
If I wasn't trying to concieve I'd of have a hysterectomy 3 years ago!
But, that's just me.

Maybe try a second opinion..look around for a doctor that will do an ablation again. It won't be impossible, just probably not easy.

Good luck.

Can feel your pain in a way- I have endo.
