Your friend needs help, because people with eating disorders don't want to change. People with eating disorders who don't change ultimately end up dying from cardiac arrhythmias (their heart beats weird and stops because their electrolytes are abnormal). Those who survive will get osteoporosis earlier in life because many of them stop having menstrual cycles during this time (anorexia).

Contrary to popular misconception, the current diagnostic standards in psychiatry only differentiate bulimics and anorexics by BMI (weight). Whether or not someone purges or vomits does not make one bulimic or anorexic. If you weigh too little, and purge, you become anorexic by definition.

I have already answered this question for someone else who was having problems, and here is my answer reposted for your friend.

You should not throw it up. It is an unhealthy compulsion, which will ruin your teeth and gums, and even your stomach. Weight is important, but it should not be your main focus in life, especially when you are not overweight.

Beauty is not just weight. It is also being healthy, and having good teeth and breath. Beauty is also being able to walk tall and feel attractive whatever your weight is. Beauty is being able to see beyond your weight, and beyond the weight of other people.

You need to get some help before this takes over your life. You probably have an eating disorder and because you do, you'll always want to get thinner (you are thin NOW). I recommend starting with your school counselor. Lots of people have eating disorders, and many people also die from it (cardiac arrhythmias from electrolyte imbalance). If you keep losing weight, you'll also stop having menstrual cycles and you'll put yourself at risk for osteoporosis. If this gets out of control you'll end up in the hospital against your will in the future, so do something while you still are in control.

STOP reading fashion magazines with those fake photo-shopped women, or those trash TV shows. No healthy human being feels beautiful when they compare themselves to these fake models and shopped stars.

You should also look at the web page below, and call them.

It's not exactly possible to have both at the same time. But you can switch back and forth between the two. One is not eating at all, and one is eating and throwing it all up. So technically it's not possible to be both anorexic and bulimic.

Yes it's possible, a lot of women with those eating disorders usually switch off between the 2.
