Why make your period lighter? As long as you know how to deal with it then it's not a problem, even if flow super heavy like mine they are easy to deal with and don't always need to be lighter.

If determined to make your flow lighter - bear in mind at your age it's normal for your flow to be a little irregular, so it'd be hard to judge what is working to lighten your flow and what isn't, also anything you use at home will have little effect, the only way to significantly lessen flow is to use medication such as tranexamic acid from your doctor, but they'll only prescribe that if your flow is very heavy.

Make sure to eat healthy and generally stay healthy. Changes to your diet leading up to your period will help a little, generally you want to get plenty of magnesium, zinc and calcium for menstrual health, iron and vitamin E to regulate flow, and vitamins A and C to regulate estrogen levels to lessen flow. Seaweed helps to revitalize the endocrine system, so you can take kelp capsules too.

Coffee is the best home method I've known to lessen flow, it's a vasoconstrictor which means that it constricts blood vessels in the uterus preventing heavy blood loss. Look into taking herbal treatments daily throughout your cycle, particularly helpful are; chaste tree (tincture is best), evening primrose oil or black cohosh, these will help to regulate hormones to help prevent heavy periods.

Menstrual cups, these are the best way to deal with periods full-stop and more so with heavy flow as they can be worn with any flow including overnight for up to 12 hours without risk of infections or TSS, they also hold more flow so don't leak like tampons. Cups are also good as they lessen cramps, and lots of women report their flow is considerably lighter using cups too.

I've got two words for ya: Birth control.

P.S. It's since* not sense. And no, what you eat does not affect how heavy or light your period is.

Birth control might otherwise welcome to womanhood and may your cramps be minimal!!! Good luck to you
