TSS cause illness. Like high fever and vomiting. So I doubt you have it because you would be very sick by now.
Luckily, it doesnt sound like TSS (symptoms of TSS below):
The signs and symptoms of TSS include:
?high fever (greater than 102° F [38.8° C])
?rapid drop in blood pressure (with lightheadedness or fainting)
?sunburn-like rash that can be anywhere on the body, including the palms of the hands and soles of the feet
?vomiting or diarrhea
?severe muscle aches or weakness
?bright red coloring of the eyes, mouth, throat, and vagina
?headache, confusion, disorientation, or seizures
?kidney and other organ failure
(Of course, any of these start to occur -- see your doc IMMEDIATELY. TSS comes on very suddenly.)
However, it does sound a lot like a typical yeast infection. This happens when you expose your privates to moisture for excessive lengths of time without allowing yourself to "get air". It can happen from leaving your sweaty gym clothes on too long, a bathing suit, or... as you have discovered, if you leave a wet tampon in too long. To take care of your yeast infection, you should go see your gyno... (the longer you wait, the worse the yeast infection will get... trust me, I've had them before). Your gyno will likely confirm this, and will just tell you to go purchase some yeast infection meds (over the counter) at the drugstore. I reccommend the 7-day Monistat pack... (the 1-day pack is NEVER strong enough for me). Just follow the instructions that come with the pack, and use it over night while you sleep for 7 days. It's rather uncomfortable at first, but the pack also comes with anti-itch/anti-inflammatory cream made specifically for your "fun area" and you should start to notice it going away after about a day or two of this treatment.... I hope this helps! :)

I have left my tampon in for over 10 hours before and I never had any problems with TSS. You don't get TSS from leaving a tampon in for too long, you get it when you change your tampon too often which irritates your vaginal area and causes the cotton to adhere to your uterine lining. If you are using a different brand of tampon, you could have an allergic reaction to that kind of cotton or plastic applicator. Also, it's possible that the tampon could have been in an awkward position and caused irritation. Just ice it for a few hours on and off and see if the swelling goes down. Maybe use a pad until the end of this period.
