Feeling so out of it?!

Question: Feeling so out of it?
I am so consumed with negative thinking; i'm a freshman in college and i lost the house keys. i am so ignorant and upset by all this. it's not the first time i do this; i am broken and feeling so stupid inside. I am not myself, i have anxiety and is it doing all this to me?

You're really beating yourself up over something that could happen to anyone. Being a college freshman is a challenging situation. You're learning to live in the adult world for the first time. It takes some time to adjust. It's natural to have some self doubt and worry if you're making the right decisions. You just need to remind yourself that no one is perfect. You are going to make mistakes in life - big ones and small ones. You just have to learn from them and try to apply the lessons to your life in the future and not make the same mistakes again. If you're really getting overwhelmed with bad feelings about yourself, you might need to talk to someone. Do you have friends or family that you can confide in that could help you get back on track? If not, I'm sure your school has counselors that you could speak with. The biggest thing I've learned after dealing with depression and anxiety for years is that you have to learn to let things go - don't dwell on the bad things. Start trying to make a list everyday of a few good things in your life that you're thankful for. It can be as simple as a really good cup of coffee in the morning but it helps you realize that there are things to feel happy about. And, learn to laugh at yourself. Don't think you're broken or flawed just because you can't be perfect. If you do something silly and feel a little embarassed, just say "there I go again", laugh it off and forget it.

Just take a step right back..
Breathe, chill, catch up with yourself. Everyones makes 'mistakes' like losing keys! ..it keeps us human and humble and normal! Get your priorities straight.
Try to be aware of your inner-dialogue, catching yourself when you tell yourself you are wrong or not good enough etc. Take it easy. Take your time. Be more gentle on yourself hon. If you truly feel 'broken' within, talk to somebody about things. Best wishes to you x ;)
