Pain in Breasts after nursing?!

Question: Pain in Breasts after nursing?
I have this tingling 'pins and needles' sensation which turns into a burning sensation and becomes very painful, but this sensation comes in only after I have finished nursing my 8 week old baby, and not during the feedings. It usually stays painful for about 1.5 to 2 hours after which the pain subsides and goes away....and only occurs in the right breast

I thought it was letdown due to excess milk, but since it is after I nurse my baby and not during the nursing, I am not so sure...there is no sign of thrush although i am already taking treatment for yeast infection (probiotics and grapefruit seed extract) and it doesn't seem to be helping at all

Has anyone experienced this and know what is causing the pain and any remedies and any idea how long this pain will go on?

You need to discuss this with your midwife/health visitor really. I breast fed for 8 months and never had any pain after the feed, just the "almost" pain felt when the milk is first let down but this should subside once the baby starts feeding. You could have the start of mastitis which is quite serious. Best to let a professional have a look I would think.

Sounds like the skin burns I used to get when I pumped. My milk would get between my breast and the shield and the friction would cause what I would describe as a wind burn feeling on my nipple and areola. Take you temp. and check that you don't have any hard painful knots ( i know at 8 weeks postpartum they are all hard and painful knots) but I would watch for Mastitis:
Symptoms

?Breast enlargement on one side only

?Breast lump

?Breast pain

?Fever and flu-like symptoms including nausea and vomiting

?Itching

?Nipple discharge (may contain pus)

?Nipple sensation changes

?Swelling, tenderness, redness, and warmth in breast tissue

?Tender or enlarged lymph nodes in armpit on the same side

I would start with the right breast, painful as it may be just in case your baby is slacking off and causing your milk to pool in his/her mouth. That moisture with the death-grip suction of a newborn can really chap the breast. You say it is only after your done and given just right breast and 8 week growth spurt I would think you aren't empty or that your body is just trying to meet the supply/demand changes. Since most of us are right handed, the ;left breast goes first so the right hand is free. If you are lop sided I would sway more to the pain being from your breast being full. My "letdown" always hurt like I took my breast and stuck it in a freezer and the tightest of skin pull just wasn't enough so it was still trying to contract more but that was both. Hope it helps and if not, it is comforting to know other new moms are awake at 4am.
