What is PCOS exactly n what are all the symptoms?!

Question: What is PCOS exactly n what are all the symptoms?
Answers:

I just want to give a more accurate and complete answer because the previous has some errors in the pathology.

It does all start with insulin resistance. That means that the body doesn't react to insulin quite the way that it should, and results in higher than normal insulin levels (especially after eating sugar or carbs). Unfortunately the elevated insulin messes with ovarian function, preventing follicles to launch their eggs properly (which become small cysts). Because the follicle does not form into a corpus luteum (which normally produces progesterone), progesterone levels are lower than normal. The body tries to fix this by raising levels of luteinising hormone (LH). It is the elevated LH levels that cause the ovaries to make too much testosterone.

Symptoms can vary between patients as there are different versions or sub-classes of PCOS, but the full list includes:

- tendency to put on weight easily leading patients to be overweight or obese
- irregular periods or lack of periods, and sometimes fertility issues (failure to ovulate)
- excessive (male pattern) hairiness
- male pattern head hair thinning
- under-developed breasts
- oily skin and acne
- dandruff
- skin darkening
- long term: higher risk of diabetes (due to insulin resistance) and higher risk of heart problems (due to low progesterone and/or weight gain)

There are various treatment options, depending upon the pattern of symptoms and the patients goals (eg becoming pregnant or perhaps losing weight). It can sometimes be controlled through diet, such as a low glycemic index diet and a diet rich in the natural compound d chiro inositol, both of which help to reduce insulin levels and hence return normal ovarian function.

pcos is a disease in which the body cannot use insulin right, and recycles it into testosterone. as a result, cysts form on the ovaries and make a woman infertile (or fertile but very hard to carry to term)

Symptoms
Menstrual disorders - mostly oligomenorrhea or amenorrhea but other types of menstrual disorders may also occur.
Infertility, generally resulting from chronic anovulation (lack of ovulation).
Hirsutism — symptoms of hyperandrogenism, such as acne or hypermenorrhea[8] Approximately three-fourths of patients with PCOS (by the diagnostic criteria of NIH/NICHD 1990) have evidence of hyperandrogenemia.[9]
Metabolic syndrome, characterised by central obesity, insulin resistance and other symptoms.
PCOS can present in any age during the reproductive years. Due to its often vague presentation it can take years to reach a diagnosis.

Serum insulin, insulin resistance and homocysteine levels are significantly higher in subjects having PCOS
