Question: Could these tablets help me not get pregnant? preferably someone with a medical background please?
Please don't give me a lecture on how i'm to young etc, because this is my personal choice and i'm not being pressured in to it by anyone (even my friends haven't had sex yet, so it's not to impress them!)
I tried to convince my mum to let me go on the pill yesterday, and she said she didn't really want me on it, but i'm going to try talking to my step-mum about it.
But if i'm not aloud on the pill, I need something else as-well as a condom.
So i'm going on holiday in 3 days, and I have to have these tablets to stop my period so I can go swimming, but I didn't know when my period will start (Its all over the place even though i've had it for almost 2 years). The tablets are called Norethisterone (5mg).
I was wondering, when I get back from my holiday, I will have about 30 left (3X a day = 10 days), so if I started taking them again a day or two before we have sex, and then continued to use them until I ran out (after 10 days), would it stop me getting pregnant or not?
And also, my mum will NOT know i'm sexually active and I cannot visit my GP without her finding out.

Okay so although I do think 14 is a little young, you are right this is your choice. All I will say is make sure you are having sex for the right reasons and that at the actual moment you do have sex you are being safe. I do applaud you for being responsible enough to want to use two types of birth control. Now on to your real question, I do know that Norethisterone is used in some contraceptive pills. However, assuming in a perfect world that they can work as contraceptives, you would have to take them as you would the pill. Which would mean everyday at the same time. Most birth control pills take a month to be fully effective in guarding against pregnancy. Which would mean in your case taking those pills for 10 days would be about as effective as taking Flintstone vitamins to prevent pregnancy. Now there are clinics such as Planned Parenthood that give out birth control pills and information. I would suggest finding a place like that to go to and maybe talk to somebody about your different options. If not maybe try a condom with spermicide? Also when you go to your doctor, he cannot tell your mother you are sexually active. That is between you and your doctor. Last but not least, pregnancy can still happen even if you are being safe. I know someone who got pregnant after she had her tubes tied and my good friend got pregnant on the pill. I won't go into the stats on STDs on and such. Just now that sex is complicated and sometimes unexpected things happen. Hope I helped :)

only a doctor knows the answer to this. Take your pills EXACTLY as prescribed, don't muck about. If they weren't prescribed as contraception then don't assume they are contraception. So if you really HAVE to have sex, you'll need to take a chance on a condom.
You're probably going to do it anyway, so you might want to go and get the morning after pill just in case the condom splits. This isn't for regular use though so YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE DOCTOR.

Here in the colonies we have Spermicides available OTC just like condoms. no body ever ID d me when buying them and I been at it since, [sorry I can't say on YA ] they are cheap and 97% effective, but , Believe me when I say I have been a SLUT For 12 years . not one pregnancy scare. I use them every time a naked penis is with in site. no matter what other BC is used the spermicide is there.
