Suddenly getting period cramps?!

Question: Suddenly getting period cramps?
I've had my period for years and never get bothered by it, ever. It's as if it's not even there. My mood stays exactly the same and I get no pain at all and then suddenly I started getting cramps, I went to school and it just got worse, I was in so much pain I just wanted to lye down and pull my knees up. I even felt nauseous, it just sucked. I'm wondering why it suddenly started given the fact that it's never happened before and am I going to have to go through it every month now?

This is a good question! I've done many surveys on menstrual cramping and one thing I've found out is that your period may change several times over the years. Most of the girls and women I talked to had their worst cramping when they were young and just started menstruation and as they got older they got milder. That said, there were many girls who had just the opposite and their cramps got worse. There were also women whose period would be bad cramps for a few months, then almost nothing and it went off and on like that permanently. It's really hard to tell what's going to happen.

If your cramps get so bad you really can't bear the pain I'd suggest you see your doctor or OB/GYN about it. It could be something like endometriosis, ovarian cysts, etc.

Sorry about this bad onset of cramps, good luck!

In depth surveys on cramps.

You may have to. I started my period at age 13 and didn't start having horrible cramps until I was between 16-17 and had them ever since. Mine got so bad that I was put on birth control to help reduce the pain. It helps to take some pain killers (Motrin and Pamperin works the best). Also using a heating pad works. They have ones where you can stick on your underwear and wear for 8 hours of the day. Also doing some stretches and exercising works as well.
