Are there any birth control options for women who have migraines?!

Question: Are there any birth control options for women who have migraines?
I've had migraines with aura since I was 14 (I think it was related to a head injury) and then I just heard that women who have migraines can't take any method of birth control that contains hormones. Well this scares me because what if I get a boyfriend soon and we want to have sex but I can't? Any advice would help immensely.

Answers:

It's not that you *can't* take them, it's just that the hormones may trigger more.
A non-hormonal IUD is probably your best bet.
A progesterone only method may also help. The NuvaRing has the lowest hormone dose on the market.
Also, always use a barrier method or a spermicide.

You will have to discuss this with your doctor. Some might be acceptable. You will probably want to try barrier methods though. Regardless, you should always have the male wear a condom.

Sure, an IUD. They are nonhormonal, virtually foolproof, and require no maintenance.
