Questions about how to get birth control at 16?!

Question: Questions about how to get birth control at 16?
I've been told that the local health department will give you free birth control when your 16 (& free condoms) without telling your parents. I really want and need birth control, but my mom isn't the type that I can just go to and ask, trust me, so I need to get it myself. Can I just simply go up to the front desk and say "Hey, I'm sixteen and would like some birth control please." ? I mean, I'm not exactly sure how this all works cause I've never done this before... I just kind of want to know what to expect.
& do they give you a free exam before giving you with pill or does that cost money?

I'm pretty sure you just need to call and say you need to make an appointment to get birth control. They'll probably schedule a consultation with a doctor but I doubt they'll have to examine you. When I got it from my regular doctor for the first time she just made sure I knew everything I needed to about it and gave it to me. I doubt that they would charge you money for that if the birth control is free. But I definitely think you should call ahead, I don't think showing up at the front desk will work. It's not like they give it out like candy, it still medication.

I'm sixteen, and when I went to the health department, I had an appointment, they did do an exam, obviously, and since it was no-home-contact, everything was free.

Well Ask someone like a cousin, or friend that is 18 to go along, just for what the heath dept calls "support".
Call in advance and make an appointment with them.
And it shouldn't cost any money at all.

When I was your age, I went to my doctor... They couldnt tell my parents even if I was 16. They do need to exam your vagina before they give it to you and it cost some money-not expensive though. But thats me....

You can call into your doctors office and go. You're aloud to go alone without them telling your parents from 14 onward :)

just go to your family doctor. they legally cannot tell your parents anything without your permission, even at that age.

Call your local free clinic or planned parenthood and ask these questions. Prices change depending on the person.
