Want an IUD but never had kids, any good alternatives?!

Question: Want an IUD but never had kids, any good alternatives?
Hi, I've been on the pill for 4 years off and on. I tried depo for about 6 months. With the pill I just can't remember to take it every day and with depo I didn't like the weight gain and irregular periods. I go to my gynecologist in a few weeks for my annual check up and I wanted to talk to him about having an IUD inserted, however; I have read that it is only recommended for women who have had children. I really don't want to mess up my fertility later in life. So, I'm looking for an alternative long term birth control and might reconsider depo since I'm starting to believe I never really gave it a chance. Any input?

I just had the paragurd IUD inserted in 21 and never had children and its wonderful! Insertion was a little painful but other than that i haven't had any problems. With the paragaurd there are no hormones so no weight gain!! I luv my IUD:D Also if you have more questions about the IUDs you should check out the website iud divas that's what helped me decided to get the copper IUD.

since you still want to leave your chances open for having a child later, I'd avoid depo, it can screw up your system badly. There is no reason why you can't have an iud put in, but it does have a possibility of coming lose in the beginning before it's grown in place. That's happened to my cousin and a friend of mine, but it is a good option. It is long term, it lasts if in place properly for 3-5 years, most I've heard last for about 5 years.

Mirena-strongly recommended for those who have had children, since cervix has been dilated. However, some physicians still do procedure.
I would recommend Implanon, its a IUD with that they insert in your arm. Very small and lasts for i believe 3 years

I am also going through the same thing as you! I am on the pill but I dont trust it. & I was on the shot But I gained 30 pounds within almost a year! (awfull!) I think the IUD is great. I think I am going to get the IUD as well. I think you should go for it.
