It could be anytime soon! Don't be worried about asking your Mom for some pads, there are so many ways you can do it. You could just go up to her and say "Mom, I think I might start my periods soon. Please can I have some pads so I am prepared" or you could text her it, which makes it a little less awkward. My Mom cried, so if your Mom does it's because her little girl is growing up.

Tampons are really tricky so it may be best to wait until you've had a few periods before you try to use one. There are loads of online websites that show diagrams on how to insert and remove tampons. If you're on a shared computer you can just remove it from the history when you're done.

I wouldn''t bother with asking your mom to buy you pads because she should have them in her bathroom and closet anyways. Whenever you get it just calmly ask her where she keeps her pad because your period started! I would recommend waiting till you get used to your period before trying tampons but their really easy.
Basically you:
1. Wash your hands
2. Sit on the toilet and spread your legs. (some girls prefer standing up with one leg on the toilet but sitting is more comfortable)
3. Find your vagina. Use a mirror if your not sure.
4. Take the tampon out of the wrapping. Get familiar with it. The big tube is the applicater, the smaller one is the plunger which pushes the tampon into the body, and the string is what you use to take the tampon out.
5. Hold the ridges (there should be a little ridge on the end of the applicater right next to the plunger) and put the edge into your vagina. Put your index finger on the plunger but don't push!
6. Relax! And gently push the applicator into your body aiming towards the small of your back until your fingers touch your body.
7. Push the plunger into the applicater.
8. Remove the applicator and leave the string hanging.
Your done!
When you take out the tampon it will hurt. But just gently pull it out using the string and you will get used to the feeling.

I know it's kind of hard, but you just need to simply say, "Hey, mom? Can I have some pads? I think my period can start really soon, and I just want to be prepared."

And when you actually do start your period, just simply tell her. "Mom! My period started!"

And for tampons, I wouldn't worry about using them just yet. Wait until you get a little more used to your period. But if you want to use them, the boxes always have an instruction booklet inside of them that tells you exactly what you need to do. Just relax, breath, and insert it. Just don't panic and tense up (like I did the only time I've tried using a tampon.....), because then it becomes painful and difficult to pull out. That's why I just stick to pads...they're easier.

i didnt start mine untill i was 14. i didnt really think about it i just woke up one morning and it was there. my mum had got me pads ages before incase i started so i just put one in. just say to your mum you think you will start soon, she will understand, she is a women and will have periods also. how old your mum was when she started you should be about the same.
i dont use tampons but they are pretty easy to use. to read the instructions
